Podemos Canarias concluded the process of renewing municipal and island bodies as established by the new documents approved in the III State Citizen Assembly, electing new municipal spokespersons and island coordinators. In Lanzarote, the new island coordinator is Ana Lucía Nacher, who assumes her new responsibilities "with enthusiasm and dedication" and with the challenge of representing the island organization and working for its implementation and consolidation.
“In this delicate moment, we must all pull together from all fronts, including the political one, to defend public services, equal opportunities and social rights,” Nacher declared after her election.
In this way, and after the election in October of the new autonomous leadership, the organization begins a new stage in which the main objective is to “take root in the municipalities, especially in the smallest ones, in which it is more difficult to get involved in a political project that points out and combats the networks of caciques and the abuse of power,” according to the general autonomous coordinator, Laura Fuentes.
Thus, the more than 30 Canary Islands circles already have a new municipal spokesperson and new work teams that will ensure the functioning and presence in the political life of the municipality and strengthen the relationship with social and neighborhood movements. “It is a delicate moment and it is more necessary than ever to be very close to social movements, listen to them, learn and try to be the transmission belt that takes their demands to the institutions,” Fuentes continues.
New municipal spokespersons
The municipal circles have also been reinforced with the election of the new dynamizing teams and new spokespersons in a process that has just culminated. Thus, in the municipality of Arrecife the new spokesperson is the councilor of the Cabildo Myriam Barros, in San Bartolomé the militant Antonio Gutiérrez, in Teguise the councilor Elsa Betancort and in Tías the councilor of Social Services, Nicolás Saavedra.
In addition, the Autonomous Citizen Council also recently approved its accounts for the coming year, which double the amount allocated to the circles to maintain their political and social activity.
