"We reject the institutional use of the Cabildo of Lanzarote for the defense of certain business interests linked to practices that we believe must be banished on this island." Podemos has reacted with this forcefulness to the information published by La Voz de Lanzarote, which revealed that Pedro San Ginés filed a complaint against the prosecutor of the Stratvs case, Ignacio Stampa, requesting "disciplinary measures" against him. Podemos accuses San Ginés of having a "double standard" to defend the interests of citizens and condemns his "attacks" on technicians of the Corporation.
After learning that San Ginés sent this letter - which the State Attorney General's Office rejected "outright" - "in the name and representation" of the First Corporation, Podemos considers that "the institutional image of the Cabildo and that of the entire island is being seriously damaged by the repeated attempts of President Pedro San Ginés to defend the private interests of a businessman accused in several corruption cases." The party is referring to the owner of the winery and main defendant in the case, Juan Francisco Rosa, who is also accused in the Unión case.
"Once again, the island's first institution is siding with the darkest power to the detriment of the general interests of the people of Lanzarote," the formation adds in a statement.
"Attacks" on technicians for "trying to ensure that the law was respected"
Podemos also refers in its statement to the attitude of the president of the Cabildo towards some of its technicians, both questioning reports about Stratvs and with other previous episodes with officials of the Corporation. "We condemn the attacks carried out from the presidency of the Cabildo on different officials and technicians of the Cabildo over the years for having committed the unforgivable crime of trying to ensure that the law was respected," the formation emphasizes.
"It is regrettable to see the president's double standard when it comes to protecting the interests of citizens. While he puts all the resources of the Cabildo into protecting the interests of the powerful, he needs several protests from the Platform of People Affected by Mortgages to intervene in the eviction of two elderly people," the formation reproaches Pedro San Ginés.
"This action of the Cabildo, together with the electoralist act of the president last Saturday in the Charco de San Ginés, are clear evidence of the worst of an old policy that we need to leave behind as soon as possible. Lanzarote urgently needs a Cabildo that defends the interests of the most disadvantaged with the same impetus with which the current president defends businessmen linked to corruption," they conclude.
