The President of the Government held a meeting this Monday with the President of the Canary Islands, Ángel Víctor Torres, and the President of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, María Dolores Corujo Berriel, at the headquarters of the First Island Corporation, taking advantage of his vacation stay on the island. Sánchez highlighted the commitment of the national government to the archipelago, with "historic investments."

Sánchez celebrated the recovery of the tourism sector: "It is once again an engine of employment both in our country and in the Canary Islands," says the president, and adds that "it has to do with the response that we have given together, among all administrations, also with the private sector, to the Covid pandemic."

The President of the Government has taken stock of the investments in the Canary Islands and has highlighted some of those "historic figures." Thus, he recalled "the direct aid of more than 1,100 million euros destined for small and medium-sized businesses in the tourism and hotel sector of the Canary Islands, in order to cushion, resist and address all the work of recovery of the tourism sector in the Canary Islands."

"The island councils and municipalities in 2022 will receive more than 1,000 million euros. And in 2023, the Canary Islands will receive around 6,500 million euros from the autonomous financing system," the president said.

"We are demonstrating the commitment of the Government of Spain in the development of the Canary Islands, in central elements such as Health, Education, Dependency, all those policies that need the contribution of the State, because it is the Welfare State, social and territorial cohesion," he stressed.

Regarding the Energy Saving Plan, he has called for "unity, responsibility and solidarity" from the PP and all public administrations. "Unity in Spain, because it is European unity; responsibility, because we have to comply with the law and we have to comply with the agreements we have reached at the Brussels level; and solidarity, because Spain also has a commitment of solidarity with the rest of European countries," said Sánchez.

Finally, Sánchez has confirmed that he will visit La Palma again in the coming days. In this sense, he reiterated "his gratitude to all the administrations, and has reaffirmed the Government's commitment to the recovery of this island, after the eruption of the Cumbre Vieja volcano last September."
