The mayor of Teguise, Oswaldo Betancort, has presented a new sports project for the town of Costa Teguise. "An exciting initiative that has a lot to do with Lanzarote as a world reference, with the orography of the island and its ploughed landscape, such as the jameos or the maretas, actions with a lot of forcefulness, but at the same time very simple and clear, which are the fundamental starting point of the same", they point out from the consistory.

“I trust that the Teguise City Council and the public company Gesplan can continue along this path together, always seeking to add to the growth and well-being of the people who reside in Costa Teguise”, said Betancort, who estimates that the investment will be around 28.5 million euros. co

A sum of money that will go to a sports hall, 2 swimming pools (one semi-Olympic and one therapeutic), sports rooms, a gym and an outdoor park with native vegetation that will fulfill the function of a public park, hosting children's games and an area for the elderly, beach games, skate, a recreational pool, lake type, and paths for running or bicycle routes, being able to connect in the future with various trails that pass through the ravine.

“We have a large team of different professional profiles who have worked together with the City Council to be able to capture the ideas and meet the sports and leisure needs, but this is not a closed design but will respond to the requests of experts from different disciplines and sports clubs, who will have 15 days to make their contributions”, said the CEO of Gesplan, Agoney Piñero, who also recalled that “since Teguise, with Betancort at the helm, declared the public company as its own personified means, there are already several lines of work in which it has been collaborating in matters such as the drafting of environmental projects and in the management of the municipal animal shelter”.

For her part, the councilor responsible for the area of Contracting, Technical Office and Urbanism of Teguise, Olivia Duque, explained what the municipal administrative procedure will be so that the Sports City contemplates all the demands of the sports community of Costa Teguise, “something that we are going to achieve with the work of the technical team of both public administrations”, she assured.

During the presentation, the project manager, Patricia Barrero, explained that “in the design of the forms, climatic, environmental and landscape issues have been taken into account: the manipulation of the topography of the plot so that the program is integrated into the landscape and is also the landscape itself; the protection of the dominant winds of the area; the opening of the pieces to the solar path so that they feed on natural light as best as possible; the use of materials from the environment; the accessibility of the place and the presence of the ravine". "All this refers to organizing the intervention in this way”.

"Thermal comfort is achieved through green roofs, openings that allow cross ventilation, the arrangement of lattices on the facades most exposed to the sun and ventilation chimneys, which implies a potential saving in engineering installations", she says.

The project has two phases and five pieces. "The different pieces of the project have been designed so that it can be developed in phases and pieces, which will be housed under the topography in a unitary way, to which the park bordering the ravine has been added, adding an outdoor sports infrastructure. This is how Barrero explained it.

The first piece is based on services and facilities. It is the main piece, which allows organizing the operation of the entire complex, and connects at both ends with two parking areas (125 spaces) through a palm grove. It includes spaces for services and facilities, offices, toy library, multipurpose rooms and cafeteria. On its upper floor it develops as a “street”, with large upper openings, and serves as a communication route with the rest of the pieces.

The second piece is the sports hall. The venue has a parquet court for indoor soccer, handball and volleyball, three transverse basketball courts separated by curtains, and four badminton courts, with their corresponding changing rooms. It also houses a grandstand with a capacity of about 500 people (which can be increased at the ends of the court if necessary), a press room, an audiovisual room and a cafeteria.

The third piece is made up of the sports rooms and the gym. Developed on two floors, it houses 8 sports rooms, fully configurable in their dimensions according to needs, and a gym with a double height that allows activities that require more space.

The fourth piece is the swimming pools. It houses a 25 m training and competition pool, as well as a hydrotherapy pool and its changing rooms.

The fifth piece highlights the outdoor park. It fulfills the function of a public park, hosting children's games and for the elderly, beach games, a skate area. It includes a recreational pool, lake type, and houses paths for running or cycling, with the possibility of connecting in the future with various trails that pass through the ravine.
