The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote and deputy for Lanzarote and La Graciosa, Oswaldo Betancort, has once again expressed his concern about the delays that travelers are suffering at the César Manrique airport due to the lack of personnel at the National Police controls.

Just a month ago, Betancort personally requested the Government Delegate in the Canary Islands, Anselmo Pestana, to increase the human and material resources allocated to guarantee security and efficiency in airport services, since he considers it “unacceptable that citizens and tourists arriving on our island have to endure long waits due to insufficient personnel at the controls. As president of the Cabildo, I have the responsibility to ensure that Lanzarote and La Graciosa receive the attention and resources necessary to maintain the safety and well-being of all”, Betancort withdraws.

In the meeting held at the Insular Delegation of the Government of Spain in Arrecife, Betancort emphasized several critical points, including security reinforcements, and requested Anselmo Pestana for precise data on the ratios of personnel of the State Security Forces and Corps in Lanzarote and La Graciosa, and the forecast of increases for 2025, in addition to insisting on the need for more National Police and Civil Guard officers at the airport and on the islands of Lanzarote and La Graciosa to cope with the influx of tourists and the resident population.

In this sense, Oswaldo Betancort adds: “I earnestly request the Government of Spain to pay attention to our needs and provide the necessary resources to ensure that Lanzarote and La Graciosa can offer an adequate service to both residents and tourists. We cannot allow the first impression that tourists have of our island to be long waits and lack of attention. It is essential to improve security services at the airport to maintain Lanzarote's reputation as a quality tourist destination.”
