The mayor of Yaiza, Óscar Noda, proposes for the next term "the recovery of the indigenous heritage for the Island of Volcanoes." The also candidate for mayor of the municipality for Unidos por Yaiza (UPY) and to the Cabildo for Nueva Canarias advocates "extrapolating to the island the model of conservation, dissemination and promotion of indigenous archaeological sites".

He has also accused the Cabildo of Lanzarote "of the total and absolute abandonment to which they have subjected the archaeological site of Zonzamas in recent years."

Likewise, he stressed that "the only progress that has been made has been in processes such as: the Cueva del Majo site in La Degollada and the archaeological investigation in the San Marcial Ribicón Site", which Yaiza carries out thanks to an agreement with the Government of the Canary Islands and the two public universities of the Canary Islands", warns Noda.

"Given the management incapacity that the Cabildo has demonstrated in matters relating to Heritage", Óscar Noda stresses that he sees "essential that the island corporation also has a dynamic Historical Heritage Service equipped with sufficient professionals and resources."

In this way, he stressed that "it cannot be that the files to declare the protection of a place or asset are eternalized or end up not being executed due to lack of human resources or excessive bureaucracy", he warns. In addition, he highlights that "this event seeks to raise awareness and make known to all people the wealth that humanity possesses in terms of historical heritage and promote its conservation and protection."

Noda proposes "the recovery not only of the indigenous sites on the island, but also of the cultural, archaeological and movable heritage that still exists in Lanzarote", he insisted in a statement.

"The transmission of our history allows the education of people from the recognition and internalization of a cultural heritage that belongs to all of us", says Noda, who also claims that schools include "the dissemination of the legends and aboriginal stories of Lanzarote and the Canary Islands and their main characters, along with the teaching of the most popular terms of the Guanche vocabulary."

Network of archaeological centers and museums

In addition, Noda also advocates the development of a network of centers and museums that guarantee the conservation of Lanzarote's archaeological wealth and proposes the creation of indigenous sculptures and figures of the ancient Canarian culture in emblematic places of the seven municipalities of Lanzarote.

"The dissemination of heritage is one of the most appropriate mechanisms to protect and preserve the history that precedes us."

Noda affirms that revaluing historical heritage aims to generate knowledge in the population towards their environment and "make a feeling of protection and solidarity born in citizens." For this reason, the Canarian candidate regrets that Lanzarote is the only island that does not have this type of sculptures." The idea is to have majestic statues that welcome visitors and remind us of the indigenous past of the Island", he explains.
