The race towards the 2007 regional elections has already begun. All political parties are looking for their candidates, although some with more problems than others, and the Socialist Party is certainly not having it easy to designate who will be their head of the list in Arrecife. After the suspension of the primary elections, which were planned and officially called, now there is a new obstacle, since once again the Federal leadership of the party has thrown to the ground the intention of the Local Assembly, which intended to meet this Wednesday to elect its candidate.

Nuria Cabrera, a member of the PSOE and one of the candidates who were mentioned at the time to head the list of Arrecife, confesses to being "astonished" by this suspension. And although she recognizes that the election of the candidates "is the task of the executive directly and not the assembly", she also adds that "if you ask me, I don't find much sense in it".

Cabrera has also stated that as a party member, she hopes that she will be given "the appropriate explanations" about these decisions. Explanations that she considers should come "from the Local Executive or from the Regional Executive, which is the one setting the guidelines." Regarding the possibility that the regional leadership of the party has interests in supporting a particular candidate, Nuria Cabrera responds that she does not believe that this is the case, but that, in any case, she is convinced that "because of how the Arrecife Assembly is and how the members are, in no case will an imposition be accepted just like that".

Cabrera has also assured that there is still an option open for the election of candidates through the proposal of the Local Executive, "which will not do it through the Assembly but will carry out the necessary consultation to know the proposals of candidates".

In addition, the deputy mayor of Arrecife has stated that as a voter she asks the Local Executive to follow the procedures that are being set for them. "Let's not stop proposing because they have taken away the assembly, because now we have another body which is the Local Executive and if they are there it has been with the confidence of the members." In addition, Nuria Cabrera has rejected the possibility of being the head of the list in Arrecife "at this point", although her name is still being considered along with that of Manuel Fajardo or Manuela Armas.
