The company that owns the buggy with which two women crashed this Monday at noon, resulting in the death of one of them, "meets all legal requirements" and "respects all spaces," says the Minister of Environment, Animal Welfare, and Food Sovereignty of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Nicolás Saavedra.
"It is an entity that is always in contact with the Biosphere Reserve to learn about the latest developments," says the minister. This company, which operates buggy excursions around the island, "has an authorization from the Teguise City Council" to circulate in the area of Los Roferos de Teseguite, adds Saavedra.
The two occupants of the vehicle, who were mother and daughter, for a reason yet to be clarified, left the group and deviated from the road where the rest of the convoy was traveling, eventually falling down a ravine. While the mother died in the accident, the daughter, who was rescued in critical condition, remains in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
The buggy routes have already been debated on the island due to their impact on the environment. "It has been a misfortune, an accident that can happen in any way, but we have to improve. Not all companies are as legal as this one that had the misfortune of suffering this accident. It is a task not only for the Cabildo but also for the different city councils, which are responsible for the territory."
