The Minister of Industry, Commerce and Tourism, Reyes Maroto, presented this Tuesday, for the first time in the Canary Islands, the new campaign to support commerce 'Raising a blind is building a country' to highlight the attributes of local commerce, health security, proximity, trust, professionalism and the quality of products and services.

Maroto and Corujo were accompanied by the general director of the Chamber of Spain, Inmaculada Riera, the Deputy Minister of Economy of the Government of the Canary Islands, Almudena Estévez, the mayor of Haría, Alfredo Villalba and the president of the Chamber of Commerce of Lanzarote, José Torres, in a presentation that took place in the Auditorium of Los Jameos del Agua and was attended by a large part of the mayors of the island, representatives of commercial associations, the business sector and social agents.

Minister Reyes Maroto highlighted “the importance of commerce in these times of pandemic to reactivate the tourism and economic sector” and shared with the sector “the measures of the Recovery Plan, where tourism is a strategic sector with an investment of 3,400 million euros”.

Betting on local commerce

For her part, lthe president of the Cabildo, María Dolores Corujo, stated that "on an island like Lanzarote, in which tourism constitutes the fundamental engine of its economic activity, local commerce must play a role of extraordinary importance"

"A vigorous, specialized, professionalized commercial fabric is essential to increase the spending in destination of our visitors. Local commerce is revealed as an important agent to distribute the benefits generated by the tourist throughout the territory, because, in the absence of these opportunities, the spending is concentrated only in the large operators and in the lodging part of the industry. Therefore, betting on local commerce, helping to raise the blind, is contributing to generate prosperity for the entire island society," added Corujo.

Corujo concluded her speech assuring that “the Cabildo of Lanzarote is honored to host the presentation of a project that aims to bring the consumer closer to local commerce." "The motto chosen for this campaign, 'Raising a blind is opening a country', constitutes a call that obliges us to recognize the value of the effort, of the hope of the commercial sector," she pointed out.

The advertising of this campaign will last until the end of December and will be disseminated through press, radio and internet, as well as on the social networks of the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism and the Chamber of Commerce of Spain and the Youtube channel of both institutions to support local commerce also in the face of Christmas shopping.

At the end of the presentation, the minister took a tour of commercial establishments in the center of Arrecife, to which the mayor of the capital, Ástrid Pérez, joined.
