MEP Paloma López opened this Saturday the electoral events planned on the island of Lanzarote to revalidate a candidate for the Senate, in this case in the figure of Juan Antonio Valencia, from IUC. The place chosen on this occasion was the headquarters of Citizen Alternative located in the capital of Lanzarote with the intention of showing the elected candidacies by the confluence of the left.
After the presentation by the coordinator of IU on the island, Sebastían Castilla de Májer Domínguez, the MEP, Paloma López, had a special mention of support for the Saharawi People, who "have so much connection with the Canary Islands". She also spoke about the situation of the refugees. And in a relaxed and participatory atmosphere on the part of the attending public, Gonzalo Busquet and Guacimara Páez from Podemos also spoke, debating about the free trade agreement, health, education and economy. Without failing to highlight how important it is to fight against corruption and tax fraud.
The candidate for the Senate, Juan Antonio Valencia, spoke in his speech about bipartisanship and the sorpasso "unable to give political answers that maintain the privileged political stability that they maintained until before the crisis". The need to break it in this "historic opportunity in which the left has united in confluence with the aim of multiplying forces around a common program that defends the social majority, people at the center of all policies".
Valencia also recalled that in the face of the use of fear "as a tool, from Unidos Podemos we advocate generating hope and fighting against the interests of a few. That is why they are afraid of us." To finish, the candidate for the Senate mentioned the need to repeal the Lomce, which IUC will defend "proposing solutions". Valencia concluded by appealing to the seriousness and commitment of his formation, "who in these elections will use the heart and the smile to end austerity and defend our rights against the powerful".
In addition to the participation this Saturday of the MEP of Izquierda Unida Paloma López, Juan Carlos Monedero and Rafa Mayoral will visit the island to support the candidacies. Both leaders will do so in a public event at the Civic Center on the 20th.
