Chief Commissioner José Santafé Arnedo has been appointed as new deputy operational director (DAO) of the National Police by the Minister of the Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, at the proposal of the director general of the National Police, Francisco Pardo Piqueras. This appointment occurs after the previous DAO of the National Police José Ángel González Jiménez submitted his resignation after a complaint for sexual assault against a subordinate became public.
Santafé Arnedo was until now the maximum responsible for the Superior Police Headquarters of Illes Balears. Chief Commissioner Santafé Arnedo joined as a student of the executive scale of the National Police in 1990. As a police inspector, he held different positions in the field of citizen security, judicial police, and immigration in the superior headquarters of Madrid and Illes Balears.
In 2005 he was promoted to chief inspector and in 2012 to commissioner. In this category he assumed responsibilities in the superior headquarters of Canarias and again in Illes Balears. In 2020 he reached the highest rank in the National Police and since July 2022 he held the position of superior chief in this headquarters.
He holds a diploma in Teaching from the Complutense University of Madrid and has completed numerous courses and training sessions related to police activity such as hate crimes, strategic direction of public security, international cooperation in security policies, leadership, and digital transformation in the National Police, among others.
The chief commissioner Santafé Arnedo has also received numerous decorations and recognitions for his professional career.
