The deputy mayor in the Tías Town Hall, Mame Fernández, has taken stock of his first hundred days as a member of the current municipal government group. The Councilor for Tourism, Culture and Seniors has also appeared together with the technicians and coordinators of his departments to give an account of his management since he signed an agreement with the mayor of Tías, Pancho Hernández, and his group from the Popular Party at the end of October 2014. One hundred days later, Fernández assures that the main points of his agreement "to give stability to Tías" have been "one hundred percent" fulfilled.
"The residents are winning with what we are doing," said Fernández, recalling that within the agreement with the PP consistory both signed six "essential points for municipal activity."
A 6-point agreement
The first of these points was the approval of the Tías General Urban Planning Plan, which was approved by the Corporation at the end of last January. The objective of the plan, according to the City Council, was "to make Tías an innovative and open municipality in its planning by incorporating the latest Canary Islands regulations on rehabilitation and tourist modernization."
The second of the commitments assumed by the representatives of both political forces was the Investment Plan in Works and Projects. In this regard, Mame Fernández said this Thursday that "the BOP is the best indicator to see" that he and his team have "a real investment plan in this municipality." "We are seeing in recent weeks how we are putting out to tender several works to improve Puerto del Carmen and all the Towns," emphasized the deputy mayor in reference to the latest works put out to tender by the City Council.
In addition, among the agreed measures, there was also the Reduction of the tax burden for residents and companies. On this issue, the Consistory emphasizes that since Fernández's entry into the Government group "progress is being made in the line of reducing the tax pressure launched in the years 2011-2014." "To this end, and after the requirements established by Law, both formations subscribe to their commitment to adapt the IBI to the new market value in Tías and Lanzarote," they point out. Last December, the Market Study on 85 properties, carried out by the Technical Office of the Tías Town Hall, was released in this regard to prove that "the real value of real estate is well below the price assigned in the presentation of values of 2007, approved by the Government group prior to 2011," explain from the City Council.
Another point of the agreement was the materialization of the opening of the Municipal Swimming Pool, a matter on which Mame Fernández has assured that "in the coming weeks we will see how this issue is cleared up." The deputy mayor explained that "a public tender will allow the opening and management of these facilities completed at the end of 2011 and whose tender was declared void in 2012 as no company submitted a bid as its opening was unfeasible."
Works in cultural facilities and educational centers
In addition, Fernández mentioned that under his stage from last October until now, improvement works have been carried out in the network of Socio-Cultural Centers and the Unión Sur de Tías Society, which reopened its doors a few weeks ago.
In another section, he highlighted that the execution of the works to improve access to the Tías Institute has been unblocked with several initiatives that "will be taken to the plenary session in these weeks."
The councilor recalled that these 6 issues were "priorities in the Government's action" as they were demands and claims that he himself had made as a councilor in the opposition before his integration into the current Government group.
In his final assessment, Mame Fernández highlighted that in these 100 days "cultural activities in the municipality have been relaunched", with "many more events in the Municipal Theater, support for local groups and culture, such as the recovery of Book Week". In terms of the elderly, "assistance and entertainment for the elderly groups has been greatly enhanced". And in tourism, Mame Fernández, highlighted the launch of the Modernization Plan for Puerto del Carmen, meetings with social agents, the upcoming openings of new tourist information points, support for restaurants or the presence of the destination in the main tourism fairs, or "the relaunch of Puerto del Carmen as a great destination", which have been endorsed by the latest INE studies where it is accredited that Puerto del Carmen has been, during 2014, the third tourist area in Spain with the highest levels of overnight stays in extra hotel accommodation.
To conclude, Mame Fernández highlighted that, in addition to these achievements that "have been agreed with the Government group", "political stability has been achieved in the Tías Town Hall to complete the current legislature."
