This past Wednesday, the Councilor for Social Welfare of the Arrecife City Council, Maite Corujo, closed the course 'Training for Qualification and Self-Employment' that took place in the Chamber of Commerce. This plan is focused on supporting self-employment as a means of labor insertion and empowerment for women victims of gender violence and other violence. Isabel Quevedo, director of the Chamber of Commerce of Lanzarote and La Graciosa, was also present at the event.
In order to "empower" approximately 15 women to discover and develop their potential, the objective has been to promote the creation of self-employment and the acquisition of personal and professional skills necessary to enter the labor market.
The project was financed with funds from the State Pact against Gender Violence and was divided into three blocks: 'Empower yourself and take ownership of your economy', 'Improve your digital skills' and 'Self-employment and training'. Another of the key points for the participants to be able to attend was to make workshops available for their minor children.
During the day, the diplomas were presented with the presence of the training team. In addition, Corujo thanked those present for “the involvement and interest shown by the participants” and announced that more courses will continue to be held. “From the Department of Social Welfare we will continue to develop initiatives like this aimed at improving the quality of life and opportunities for women victims of gender violence in Arrecife,” she explained.
