The company that manages the municipal swimming pool of Arrecife and the sports hall of Argana received at noon this Friday the decree of the City Council ordering the "closure" of both facilities. The notification arrived two days after the City Council made public this decision, which until this noon had not been officially transferred to Lude.
Now, the company is studying the steps to be taken, which involve the imminent closure or trying to file an appeal or a request for clarification on the deadline they have to adopt this measure.
In the decree, the City Council indicates that an administrative infraction "very serious" has been committed and warns the company that in the next 15 days a procedure will be opened, in which, among other things, it will be determined whether the closure measure is confirmed, modified or lifted.
Municipal facilities without license
Both the pool and the Argana pavilion are municipal property facilities, built during the Mayoralty of María Isabel Déniz. In both cases, they were inaugurated in the last legislature, without either of them obtaining an opening license. The City Council granted the management of these spaces to the company Lude, which is now precisely claiming those licenses.
The failures in the work, especially in the case of the Argana pavilion (whose award is being investigated within the "Unión" case for alleged crimes of bribery), have so far prevented granting those opening permits. In both cases it is necessary to carry out works to correct the deficiencies of the project.
Regarding the pool, the City Council had been pointing out that the works were minor and could be undertaken without the need to close. In the case of the pavilion, the Councilor for Sports had spoken of closing it "a couple of months" to carry out the works, but when the season ended. However, finally the government group decided last Wednesday to order the immediate closure of both facilities.
