Las Salinas Inaugurates Public Park

Las Salinas Public Park in Arrecife. This is the name of the new recreational space for young and old that Arrecife has and that has already been officially inaugurated by the capital's first mayor, Cándido Reguera, the general director of the General State Administration in Lanzarote, Carmelo García Déniz, and the councilors of Urban Planning, Parks and Gardens, Personnel and Sports, Pedro de Armas, Antonio Machín, Eduardo Lasso and Miguel Ángel Hernández, respectively.

Las Salinas Public Park, whose investment is 445,912 euros, has an area of more than 2,000 square meters where there is a children's play area, a central square with garden areas, sports equipment, such as basketball and paddle tennis courts, as well as a kiosk and bathrooms. "The residents now have a space in which to enjoy an important leisure and recreation area with their children, which they have been demanding for some time," said the Arrecife mayor during the inauguration of this new recreational space.

For his part, Antonio Machín, Councilor for Parks and Gardens of the Arrecife City Council, and responsible for this work, declared that it was a "promise fulfilled." According to Machín, now the residents of this capital area will have "a place for them", since most of the sports fields in Las Salinas are privately owned.

Management, up for tender

The capital's mayor added that although initially the City Council would be in charge of opening this public park every afternoon from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., once the council puts the management of the park out to tender, "it will be a company or a group that takes charge of the park with very affordable prices."

Antonio Machín also explained that "with this investment, the City Council has recovered a municipal plot that was abandoned and has converted it into an important leisure and recreation area." Machín recalls that, prior to the start of the works on this park, several meetings were held with the residents of the neighborhood to agree on the work and its equipment. "The residents of Las Salinas demanded sports courts for public use," explains Machín, "since the existing courts in the neighborhood belong to different clubs."

First work of Plan E

On the other hand, the island director of the General State Administration, Carmelo García Déniz, who attended this inauguration representing the central government, added that this is the first work of Plan E of 2009 that is officially inaugurated, but that there were still 24 more works in the municipality of Arrecife to be received, recalling that the amount assigned to the capital of the island of this plan in 2009 was 10 million euros "and in Lanzarote, 23,500,000 euros."
