The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Oswaldo Betancort, visited, together with the vice president and Councilor for Public Works of the Cabildo, Jacobo Medina, as well as the Councilor for Fisheries, Samuel Martín, the works for the creation of a total of 16 warehouses for equipment as well as another for ice in Puerto Naos.
“The new storage facilities that are being built in Puerto Naos, in Arrecife, will be a boost for the island's fishing activity”, considered the president, who assured that the highest island institution “is strongly committed to supporting and improving the working conditions of a group that plays a key role in the economic development of Lanzarote”.
Vice President Jacobo Medina highlighted that this project covers “the deficiencies detected after the analysis of the situation of the fishing sector that has been carried out from the Cabildo”.
The new building, carried out by the company Transportes y Excavaciones Tiagua, SL, and which has an investment of 278,062.99 euros financed 80% through the Canary Islands Development Funds (FDCAN), will include different individual units with access from the outside, thus facilitating the operation of the fishermen.
Likewise, he specified that “in this way it is intended that fishing professionals can solve the current deficiencies they face when carrying out their activity.
For his part, Councilor Samuel Martín highlighted that the action has been coordinated with the Island Council's Department of Fisheries and “will allow addressing a historical demand of the sector in order to facilitate their work and satisfy the demand for ice they need as raw material for their daily activity”.
