The Cabildo of Lanzarote, through the Department of Social Welfare and in collaboration with the Association of People with Disabilities of Lanzarote (Adislan), hosted on Tuesday, October 28, a training day entitled Evaluate, Support and Prevent: Keys to Inclusive Education, an event that brought together teachers, healthcare personnel, families, and professionals from the social field, with the aim of strengthening child development in schools.
The President of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Oswaldo Betancort, emphasized that "Lanzarote continues to take firm steps to position itself as an island that puts people at the center. We are committed to accessible education, capable of detecting, accompanying, and preventing from an early age. Training is key to guaranteeing equal opportunities."
For his part, the Minister of Social Welfare, Marci Acuña, stressed that the activity served as a space for reflection and learning between citizens and professionals in the sector, and insisted on working to achieve an "educational model" based on empathy and attention to diversity. "We are working to promote a school that responds to the needs of all children, without exclusions," he stressed.
"Working side by side with entities like ADISLAN and bringing in international experts allows us to move towards more inclusive, more humane, and better-prepared environments. These conferences reinforce our commitment to early intervention, socio-emotional support, and prevention," he stated.
During the session, researchers Jennifer Grisham, director of the Department of Inclusive Education at the University of Kentucky, and Mary Louise Hemmeter, professor of Special Education at Vanderbilt University, shared innovative strategies focused on integrated classroom and family practices, authentic assessment of child development, and prevention of concerning behaviors through the renowned Pyramid Model.
The day offered a space for reflection and shared learning, promoting professional development and improvement of the educational response towards children with support needs in inclusive contexts. The event, which reached full capacity, demonstrates the Cabildo of Lanzarote's commitment to creating learning spaces for teachers, families, and technical teams, promoting safer, more enriching, and respectful educational environments that embrace diversity.
