Although the Government of the Canary Islands announced last Thursday that Lanzarote would remain at health alert level 4 until at least March 4, this Monday it has decided to modify its decision and that the island will drop to level 3. This phase will come into effect starting this Tuesday, March 2.
This was announced by the president of the regional Executive, Ángel Víctor Torres, after the extraordinary Governing Council that was held in the morning.
In a press conference, Torres highlighted how the indicators have been "improving" in Lanzarote, pointing out that he hopes that it "continues in that trend to go down a level."
At first, the president of the Government of the Canary Islands pointed out that the island was going down from level 4 to level 2, which generated confusion among journalists. However, Torres finally rectified, confirming that the reduction was to level 3.
Level 3 measures
Thus, businesses will no longer have to close at 6:00 p.m. and meetings of four people will be allowed in both public and private spaces. However, the curfew remains between 10:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. Likewise, restrictions on entry and exit from the island also continue, except for justified reasons.
As for the hotel industry, the premises must close before 10:00 p.m. and the maximum capacity of the terraces will be 50%, with service not allowed indoors or at the bar.
Sports practice inside facilities remains prohibited at health alert level 3, but outside groups of up to four people are allowed.
Situation of the rest of the islands
With respect to the rest of the islands, Gran Canaria and Tenerife will remain at alert level 2 and La Palma, Fuerteventura, El Hierro and La Gomera at level 1. However, this last level will be "reinforced", implementing a curfew between 00:00 and 06:00 hours.
This time adjustment is also transferred to the activity of hotels and restaurants at that same level, for which the complete closure of establishments is established before 00.00 hours, while it has been decided to adjust the number of people per group depending on whether they are outdoors or indoors for alert levels 1 and 2,
Thus, from now on, up to alert level 1, 75% of the authorized capacity in indoor spaces may not be exceeded. The maximum occupancy per table or group of tables will be 10 people outdoors, 6 in indoor spaces and 4 the group of customers at the bar.
For its part, at alert level 2, 75% of the authorized capacity on outdoor terraces and 50% in indoor spaces may not be exceeded. The maximum occupancy per table or group of tables will be 6 people outdoors, 4 in indoor spaces and 2 the group of customers at the bar. The buffet or self-service service may not be provided in indoor spaces and in this case the complete closure of the establishments is established before 11:00 p.m.
Likewise, Torres has announced that modifications related "to capacity in sports activities" will be introduced at level 1, authorizing the attendance of the public to non-professional, professional and federated sports events, without exceeding a maximum capacity of 50% and provided that the interpersonal safety distance of at least 1.5 meters is guaranteed.
"Concern" for Easter
The president of the Government of the Canary Islands has pointed out that the levels will be reviewed again on Thursday and has shown his "concern" regarding Easter.
And it is that, he pointed out that
