José Torres Stinga downplays the demonstrations of the people of El Hierro and La Palma regarding his upcoming presidency of CC

This Wednesday and before the microphones of the program "Buenos Días Lanzarote" of Radio Lanzarote, José Torres Stinga explained that the disagreement that his party colleagues in El Hierro have raised regarding his appointment as president of CC, once Paulino Rivero is invested as president of the Government of the Canary Islands, "is a formal issue that can be resolved." The people of El Hierro argue that the vote by which Torres Stinga was designated as Paulino Rivero's successor at the head of the party if he reached the presidency of the Canary Islands did not appear on the agenda of the Political Council of February 3, and that therefore, that vote is not valid.

On the other hand, José Torres Stinga responded to the complaint of the president of CC in La Palma, José Luis Perestelo, who showed his disagreement with the appointment of the mayor of Haría instead of Antonio Castro Cordobez from La Palma, arguing that there is an established order among the four vice presidents of CC and in that order, Castro Cordobez is the first vice president, ahead of Torres Stinga. The mayor of Haría assured that Perestelo starts from a "misunderstanding in his approach" because "at the time it was established that there are four vice presidents of the party but without determining the order".

José Torres Stinga maintained that both complaints "are more formal issues than anything else" and concluded that "there is not the slightest problem with the people of El Hierro or with the people of La Palma", in addition to considering that his appointment is not in danger because "they are not going to pose any problem, I can guarantee it".

He assured that he is in permanent contact with colleagues from both islands, although this Wednesday he had not yet spoken with José Luis Perestelo, but he was confident that it will be a "perfectly solvable" issue and also assured that neither the nationalists of La Palma nor those of El Hierro "are raising a process of vindication."

Lanzarote in the future Government of the Canary Islands

When asked during the interview about the distribution of areas between CC and the PP within the pact that was precisely signed hours later in the Congress of Deputies with his presence, José Torres Stinga considered that it has been an "equitable distribution because the difference between CC and PP is only four deputies".

Regarding the responsibilities of the Government of the Canary Islands that could fall on members of CC from Lanzarote, Torres Stinga acknowledged that if in the past elections instead of two parliamentarians for the island, they had obtained four, "we would have been talking about which Ministry belongs to us instead of ´let's see if it belongs to us`". The mayor of Haría believes that "we have to wait" for Paulino Rivero to establish "the negotiating line that he considers" but affirms that "he has not the slightest doubt that Lanzarote will have the role that corresponds to it".
