The Vice President of the Cabildo of Lanzarote and Councilor for Public Works, Jacobo Medina, presented this Tuesday the management report of his area corresponding to 2024, and highlighted "the achievements and fulfillment of the commitments made to the citizens of the island."
“This year has been marked by a historic investment aimed at improving and modernizing the island's infrastructure, thus consolidating the Cabildo's firm commitment to the sustainable development and quality of life of the people of Lanzarote”, said the vice president, who thanked the seven municipalities of the island “for their willingness and collaboration in carrying out the different interventions”.
During his speech, Medina highlighted that, throughout 2024, more than 21 million euros have been invested from funds from the Canary Islands Development Fund (FDCAN), and another 8.2 million euros from the Next Generation EU Funds. These figures reflect a firm commitment to transforming roads, public spaces and essential services in all the municipalities of Lanzarote.
The vice president stressed the need to act constantly and responsibly to maintain and renew the island's infrastructure, adapting it to current demands for safety, mobility and sustainability. Medina explained that these investments have made it possible to carry out important rehabilitation and improvement projects in strategic points, such as the renovation of the road that connects Maciot and Playa Blanca, as well as the resurfacing of roads adjacent to the LZ-2 in Playa Honda.
In addition, almost 100 new parking spaces have been created at the Doctor José Molina Orosa University Hospital, thus facilitating access to a fundamental infrastructure for citizens. The road surface between Conil and La Asomada has also been rehabilitated, an intervention that has had an investment of close to one million euros and that considerably improves road safety in the area.
Data that demonstrates the fulfilled commitment
Another of the outstanding achievements has been the urban transformation in Playa Honda, with the integral improvement of San Borondón and Princesa Ico streets, contributing to boosting one of the areas with the greatest commercial and residential activity on the island. Likewise, Medina highlighted the renovation of public lighting in Conil, an action that modernizes the energy infrastructure and guarantees greater efficiency and safety for residents.
In his assessment, Jacobo Medina made special mention of the Municipal Cooperation Plan, which in 2024 reached a record figure of 13.8 million euros destined to finance projects in all the municipalities of Lanzarote. These investments have made it possible to carry out improvements in sports facilities, renovation of public spaces and reinforcement of essential services, ensuring that each municipality directly benefits from island resources.
Medina concluded his presentation highlighting the Cabildo's unwavering commitment to the people of Lanzarote. “We have kept our word and the projects we set out to do. We will continue working to ensure that Lanzarote has modern, safe and sustainable infrastructure. This assessment is a clear sign that effort and responsibility bear fruit when working with commitment and determination.”
The Public Works area thus reaffirms its role as an engine of development and progress for Lanzarote, betting on a better connected island, with quality services and a more accessible and safe environment for all, thus reactivating the island's economy through public works.
