IES Tías, through its Department of Spanish Language and Literature and with the collaboration of A Casa José Saramago, has announced the "José Saramago" short story prize. All students enrolled in Secondary Education centers on the island of Lanzarote may participate in this literary contest.

With this call, the center wants to recognize the figure of "a man who cared about words, about people, about the world closest to him and about the one who needed a different perspective to see the things that were happening," they said in a statement. In this way, "an idea and a debt to the Portuguese writer who considered the island of Lanzarote as his adopted land is recovered," they indicated.

From this first edition, and annually, he will be honored through this award, which bears the name of the writer. The rules of the contest can be found both on the center's website www.iestias.es and on the Facebook page of the IES library. The deadline for submitting these works will be until March 8 at 2:00 p.m. The jury's decision will take place on March 18.
