The Cabildo of Lanzarote has announced the authorization of opening of hunting dog training fields controlled for a period of 10 years.
The resolution, adopted by the Hunting Councilor on June 3, and published this Thursday, June 30 in the Official Gazette of the Canary Islands (BOC), includes the areas authorized for this, as well as the restrictions and limitations of this activity on the island.
Although the writing alludes to the absence of problems derived from this practice on other occasions and highlights its advantages, such as, for example, "the good preparation of the dogs for the current season", it also emphasizes the importance of ensuring that the transfer of these animals does not harm the reproduction of other species of wild fauna.
In any case, the owners will be able to train their hunting dogs from Tuesday to Sunday from sunrise to sunset, in the period between June 5 and the partridge hunting season.
It will be essential that users carry their hunting license at all times, as well as the mandatory insurance in force. In addition, dogs must be identified and care will be taken to ensure that they do not cause damage to neighboring agricultural farms.
The two authorized areas
The Cabildo has established two areas authorized for such training, which must be properly signposted throughout its perimeter.
The first will be bounded to the north by the Mala road that goes to Charco del Palo and to the east by the coastline between Charco del Palo and ZEPA Llanos de la Corona and Tegala. Meanwhile, to the west it will be restricted by the Tahíche-Mala road between the ZEPA Llanos de la Corona and Tegala limit and, to the south, it will be bounded by the north ZEPA Llanos de la Corona and Tegala Grande.
For its part, the second area will be controlled to the north in the southern limit of the ZEPA Llanos de la Corona and Tegala Grande, to the east between the coastline between the southern limit of the ZEPA Llanos de la Corona and Tegala, to the west by the nucleus of Tahíche and to the south by the road between Costa Teguise and Tahiche.
Limitations to take into account
In any case, the BOC also establishes certain restrictions in these areas, such as leaving out of its limits the Special Protection Area for Birds of the Llanos de la Corona and Tegala Grande, and in the area known as Vedado de Caza, Los Ancones. Due to its proximity to these areas, training may not take place between the months of October and May, as it coincides with the breeding period of the houbara.
Likewise, the regulations prohibit leaving waste or garbage, as well as the entry of these dogs into cultivated areas, such as vineyards, horticultural and fruit crops, or spaces of ethnographic and archaeological interest, such as cisterns, uninhabited dwellings or maretas.
It is important to mention that only a maximum of two dogs per hunter may be trained, without the possibility of training in a group. Finally, the writing emphasizes that the use of ferrets will not be allowed and the capture of pieces will be prohibited. In the event that this occurs by accident, they must be delivered to a charitable entity.
Any infringement of this regulation may lead to the suspension of the hunting authorization.
