The Haría City Council plenary session approved a motion from the government group to establish a local protocol for the prevention and care of sexist aggressions in festive spaces in the northern municipality.
Among the main measures to be adopted, the establishment of points free of sexist aggressions (purple points) in the festivals of the north of the Island stands out, with qualified personnel to assist possible victims and to offer information to all people who approach.
The City Council will also carry out awareness campaigns on equality at the festivals, promoting specific actions that promote the values of respect and freedom. Similarly, key agents will be trained in this area and greater coordination will be sought between all municipal services involved.
The local Corporation is committed to carrying out "as many actions as necessary for the advice and monitoring of the non-sexist use of language and images in the festivals and to develop guides with guidelines against aggressions, as well as to launch self-defense and empowerment courses for women".
"We want to promote an atmosphere of respect and tolerance in the different festive events that we organize from the Haría City Council", says the mayor, Alfredo Villalba, who considers "inadmissible that cases of abuse and attacks on women continue to occur in recreational environments".
