The San Bartolomé City Council has approved the development of a large project that will "transform and improve" the surroundings of the Plaza Santa Elena in Playa Honda. The planned works seek the creation of a "collective space2 for citizens, remodeling the urban space of the square. In addition, the project includes the construction of "new buildings" intended to house collective uses such as a library and training rooms, a large underground parking lot will also be built with capacity for 110 vehicles that will help alleviate parking problems in the area.
The planned buildings will be respectful of the environment as well as energy efficient and, for this, sustainable, natural and/or recycled materials will be used. One of the objectives of the San Bartolomé City Council is for the building to be capable of cooling, heating and lighting itself with a low energy demand.
The mayor of San Bartolomé, Isidro Pérez Martín, is convinced that "this project not only meets the current needs of residents and visitors to Playa Honda, but also satisfies a historical demand from local groups and associations who will now have their own space to develop their activities. This consistory is committed to improving the quality of life of its inhabitants and the sustainable development of the municipality. This initiative is one more example of our commitment to these values and demonstrates our capacity as a city council to carry out ambitious and transformative projects for the benefit of the neighborhood”, he concluded.
On the other hand, the Councilor for Urban Planning, Marlene Romero, reports that the works will be put out to tender for an amount "of approximately 4,500,000 euros" and the execution period will be "eighteen months" from the award of the same. She also points out that “the integral renovation of Plaza Santa Elena will be a great advance for Playa Honda. A space will be created that will concentrate all social, cultural and educational activities, which will foster synergies and, therefore, contribute to the development of Playa Honda as a community."
