The Ministry of Education, Vocational Training, Physical Activity and Sports of the Government of the Canary Islands, in collaboration with the Charter 100 Canarias Association, will celebrate next April 23, at the Jameos del Agua Auditorium, the III Canary Women and Sport Gala.

There, the women from Lanzarote Sol Borelli, world surf champion, and Berta Santana, president of CD Adassa for her work in adapted hockey, will be honored. In addition, a distinction will also be awarded to the sisters Ingrid Roger and Brenda Roger, from Fuerteventura who have made history after several seasons at CB Zonzamas.

The president of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, Oswaldo Betancort, assured that these awards “represent the values of the women of Lanzarote”. “It is an enormous pride for all the citizens of Lanzarote and La Graciosa the distinctions to Berta Santana and Sol Borelli for their recent achievements; they are an example that with work and sacrifice there are no unattainable goals. Likewise, the role of Ingrid and Brenda Roger in CB Zonzamas is fundamental to understanding the growth of women's handball on our island”, he added.

For his part, the Councilor for Physical Activity and Sports, Juan Monzón, assured that both Santana and Borelli “are two athletes who represent the present and future of Canarian sport.” “Their trajectory is a reflection of the high level of our base, united also with that of the Roger sisters for defending the colors of Zonzamas.” “Having role models of this caliber in Lanzarote obliges us to continue strengthening our support for sport,” he concluded.
