The Nueva Canarias candidate for Mayor of Teguise in the elections of May 28, Fernando Jiménez, has included in his electoral program new proposals so that the municipality of Teguise and the island of La Graciosa can have as soon as possible a Comprehensive Shade Plan that allows "users of playgrounds and educational centers to be sheltered from the sun", the party reports.

Jiménez considers "essential" the provision of shade areas "for the greater use and enjoyment of users and their own parents." "We believe that it is an aberration that there are still so few shade areas in the most extensive municipality on the entire island of Lanzarote, but it seems that our rulers have not even bothered to take care of the conditions in which our children, adolescents and young people study and play," explains Jiménez.

The Canarian candidate also highlights that "the solar radiation index recorded in Lanzarote and La Graciosa means that both islands have priority for the installation of this type of sun protection elements." "We do not understand that after so many legislatures, more than 12 years of this single-color Government, which most of the time has also had the same political sign in the Cabildo and the Government of the Canary Islands, to this day, and despite so much
promising, this important demand has not yet been resolved by the Teguise City Council," indicates Jiménez.

For the Canarian candidate, the Teguise City Council "has all the necessary tools so that this shade plan so demanded by parents and the educational community itself does not continue to be conspicuous by its absence, especially in these sensitive areas where our young people carry out their studies daily and in which many of them develop their leisure time," he acknowledges.

In this sense, the plan designed by Fernando Jiménez and the Nueva Canarias team in Teguise foresees "co-financing with funds belonging to the City Council itself but which are framed within the municipal cooperation plans of the Cabildo of Lanzarote and La Graciosa," the party emphasizes. In addition, this comprehensive shade plan contemplates "the preferential use of vegetation, but also of other material elements such as visors and pergolas "that do not cause an impact on the environment."

"It is also about planning the care of the youngest in the municipality, providing shade areas in particularly sensitive areas and in which right now you have to take cover because it is where the sun hits the most," explains the candidate.

"Not only in schools and playgrounds, but also in all those spaces of socialization"

"Our intention is to extend the implementation of these shade areas not only in schools and playgrounds, but also in all those spaces of socialization in which, due to their recreational, sports and leisure nature, our neighbors spend a lot of time," he concludes.
