The Chamber of Commerce of Lanzarote and La Graciosa celebrates that Teguise has been the first local administration on the island to finalize the administrative processing necessary to activate the collective self-consumption model designed by the Local Energy Community (LEC) “TODA Lanzarote”.
Thanks to the energy community, the energy generated on the roofs of municipal buildings can be shared with citizens and the business fabric located within a radius of 2 kilometers from each installation.
The plenary agreement ratifies the commitment to a real energy transition in the municipality of Teguise, where the transfer of public infrastructure will serve to generate energy intended for residents and small businesses. This model not only guarantees the viability of the project through institutional support, but also establishes a precedent of equal opportunities and sustainability for a territory with a wide geographical dispersion.
A model exportable to the rest of the island
The Energy Community “TODA Lanzarote”, jointly promoted by the Lanzarote Cabildo and the Chamber of Commerce, is born with an island-wide and transformative vocation. This collective self-consumption model for Lanzarote marks the beginning of a new stage in the management of the island's energy resources, based on cooperation, common benefit, and commitment to a fairer development model that is respectful of the natural environment of Lanzarote and La Graciosa.
From the Chamber of Commerce, a call is made to the rest of Lanzarote's local administrations so that their internal administrative procedures are accelerated. The consolidation and activation of the energy community depends on the involvement of all public administrations, whose collaboration is indispensable to convert municipal rooftops into sources of clean and shared energy.
