The Dos Orillas collective has shown its disagreement with the "supposed participatory process" in the Famara Socio-cultural Center, and in the Caleta del Sebo Parish Hall, regarding the new Rector Plan for Use and Management (PRUG), of the Chinijo Archipelago Natural Park carried out on November 20 and 21.

"From the Dos Orillas group, made up of residents who live in this Natural Park, we want to make visible the use of false participatory processes by some political groups, who intend to legitimize decisions of great importance for the future of the islands of Lanzarote and La Graciosa," they say.

"Our organization invites public and private institutions, and civil society, to commit to real participatory processes, as a path towards the construction of fairer, more equitable and resilient communities. We urge all actors to recognize that participation is not only a right, but also a collective responsibility," they declare.

"That is why we ask the Cabildo of Lanzarote to formally convene the working table, made up of groups and institutions, that our group proposed more than a year ago and about which we have not received any response. We believe it is necessary for the Cabildo to lead the meeting, both of the Teguise City Council and the Haría City Council, the Government of the Canary Islands and the Autonomous National Parks Organization, together with a representation of groups, companies and citizens, to monitor the preparation of the PRUG and question the management of this protected space," they indicate.

As is known, the Natural Park will soon be forty years old and, "in addition to not having approved regulations, it does not have a coordination body between institutions, despite the difficulties that the two consolidated populations within it face every day: waste management, water and sanitation supply, tourist and residential use, vehicles, etc.," they denounce.

"From this Group we state that we do not want to continue being a natural park on paper. If you really want to make regulations for the management of this space, we believe that it has to be done consciously, taking into account the concerns of citizens, as is being done, but also developing regulations that are realistic and applicable by the responsible institutions," they state.

"As we stated in our request, we believe that the implementation of this working table is necessary, and urgent, because in addition to helping us promote the PRUG that this Natural Park deserves, it can be the seed of the body that manages it much more efficiently," they conclude.
