The staff delegate and member of the Strike Committee of the ambulance sector in Lanzarote, Jorge Montoya, has denounced this week to the Labor Inspectorate the company in charge of the service on the island, Tasisa, for "breach of labor and union law."
It should be remembered that the workers in the ambulance sector began a strike throughout the archipelago on March 14 to demand "a decent agreement" for the sector, holding stoppages every Wednesday. In the case of Lanzarote, Montoya has also been denouncing "coercion" of workers by the company in charge of the service, in addition to alleged breaches in terms of working hours, which he has now denounced to the Labor Inspectorate.
In the complaint, it is stated that the company Tasisa "fails to comply with the collective agreement applicable in the Canary Islands" currently in force. In this sense, it is pointed out that "it continues to unilaterally apply verbal agreements with workers reached more than 10 years ago, when there was no regional agreement, which violate the current applicable agreement in force" and "without having any type of agreement" with the "current Company Committee", understanding the representative of the workers "that it is coercive to them" to "pressure them to accept lower working conditions".
Salaries "reduced by 12%" and breaches of working hours
In addition, the staff delegate and member of the Strike Committee assures in the complaint to the Labor Inspectorate that the salaries and remunerations of the workers "are reduced" by "12% less, which is applied to salary tables from the years 2010 and 2011" and that, in terms of working hours, "the company applies 80 four-weekly hours unilaterally and not the 40 contemplated by the application agreement". In this regard, it is added that there is also "non-compliance" with respect to 24-hour shifts, by "not giving 72 uninterrupted hours of rest".
The workers' representative also points out that "he is unaware and has not been informed, nor does it appear on the notice boards of the schedule, a list of all the personnel currently providing their services in the company that specifies the work calendar for the current year of the workers, which will include the work schedule and the annual distribution of working days, holidays, weekly rest, vacations, established hours and shifts and the unit to which they are assigned", which in his opinion "violates" the application agreement as well.
In terms of occupational risk prevention, Jorge Montoya denounces that "he is not aware of any Occupational Risk Prevention Plan agreed with the workers' representation, nor of a mandatory evaluation of the jobs that includes the bases, vehicle, etc.".
For all these reasons, the staff delegate and member of the Strike Committee of the ambulance sector in Lanzarote, Jorge Montoya, considers that the company "fails to comply with labor regulations and legislation" and has decided to report these facts to the Labor Inspectorate.
