The Ciudadanos councilor in the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Benjamín Perdomo, has requested the resignation of the president of the Corporation, Pedro San Ginés, for his indictment for a crime of malfeasance and another of coercion in the case opened for the seizure of the Montaña Roja desalination plant. In Perdomo's opinion, San Gines should leave his position until a sentence is handed down.

"If Spain were a normal country with normal politicians, Pedro San Ginés would resign until the judicial sentence was known," said the C´s councilor. For Benjamín Perdomo, "the charges are serious enough to formalize his resignation in the shortest possible time."

In addition, Perdomo has pointed out that "the ways of acting" when seizing that Club Lanzarote plant "were totally inappropriate, despite the fact that the substance of the matter was understandable." In this regard, the councilor maintains that "there was a company that was selling water to hotels and villas without authorization from the Island Water Council, without the established prices and without the mandatory controls, which can generate problems not only for the citizens who consume it, but also for the environment of the island."

However, Ciudadanos believes that this does not justify the actions of Pedro San Ginés. Among other things, the seizure was carried out without judicial authorization. Furthermore, as has now become known in the investigation of this criminal case, there were no written legal reports to support the decision made by the president.

For all these reasons, Ciudadanos (C´s) will also request "the holding of an extraordinary Plenary Session, so that the president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote can have the opportunity to explain this matter to the rest of the public representatives and the citizens."
