CC councilor Chaxiraxi Niz became the new mayor of Haría this Monday, after the motion of censure against the socialist Alfredo Villalba, with whom they had shared government since the beginning of this term, prospered. "This ending was not the desired one, on the contrary", the nationalist councilor assured in her speech to justify her vote, from which one of her party colleagues, Soraya Brito, distanced herself.
Thus, the motion has passed with the votes of only four of the five councilors of the Canarian Coalition and with the three of the Municipal Platform of Haría of José Torres Stinga, who will now govern again together with his former party. In addition, as president of the age table, he was the one who handed over the baton of command.
"We are witnessing a motion of censure that is legitimate, democracy is like that. I don't even want to go into the content of the motion. I believe that the residents of this municipality are very old. We are old enough not to have to continue attending to the requests of those from Arrecife", said Alfredo Villalba, referring to the interference of the island's CC leadership in what happened in the municipality.
In fact, the censure has been justified by the approval of the addendum to the agreement of the Cueva de Los Verdes, when it was precisely the votes of the councilors of the Coalition that allowed it to go ahead in the Plenary of Haría. In fact, only one councilor complied with the mandate of his party and voted against, while another voted in favor - despite which he has supported the motion of censure - and three abstained, including the new mayor.
"Agreements are made to be fulfilled. That was the objective of the Canarian Coalition from the beginning", said Chaxiraxi Niz, who added that they have not "been able to reach the end" and has attributed it to a lack of "loyalty". "Basic principles of a relationship have been violated, including trust, which is essential to move forward as a government group", she defended. In addition, she spoke of "palpable differences between both formations", although the only one that CC has put on the table has been the execution of the sentence of La Cueva, which precisely divided the vote of the Canarian Coalition itself in the municipality, when the island's leadership opposed the approval of the addendum stating that it was a "disloyalty" to the agreement signed in its day by Pedro San Ginés.
For his part, Alfredo Villalba has bid farewell to his position defending the work they have been doing in this time and including in that recognition the councilors of the Coalition. "I leave with the satisfaction of having undertaken countless projects with which they censure us today", "the work is not exclusively mine, this has been a work developed as a team", he stressed.
