Representatives of Comisiones Obreras have held a meeting with the mayor of Yaiza, Óscar Noda, to resolve the “doubts” of the staff of the Papagayo Arena hotel (now Sandos Papagayo Beach Resort) about the future of the establishment, which has been declared illegal and unbuildable.

The union requested this meeting after learning of the latest order from the Contentious-Administrative Court Number 5 of Las Palmas, which ordered the “full execution” of one of those rulings against the hotel, due to the invasion of public land that should be a large access road to the beach.

Compliance with that ruling would imply, at a minimum, the demolition of that entire part of the establishment, to clear the way to the sea, although to this must also be added other breaches that were addressed in another ruling, which is also still pending execution.

From Comisiones Obreras, which is the majority union in that center, they state that “they advocate for compliance with current legislation”, and that their intention was “to clarify the doubts expressed by the workers”.

In this regard, they state that the company has informed them that the situation “will in no way affect the stability of the workforce”, although it still has not presented a project that would allow the hotel to be legalized, for which a good part of the establishment would have to be demolished.
