CCOO has called off the indefinite strike planned for August 15 among the workers of the ferry "Volcán de Tindaya" of Naviera Armas, which connects Playa Blanca and Corralejo.
The reason for this strike, as explained then by CCOO's Juan Valiente, was due to the company's failure to provide rest for the workers, as he claimed they were working "16 and 17-hour" days.
However, the strike was called off this Thursday after reaching an agreement with the company. "They have committed to taking the appropriate measures to ensure that they only work 8 hours as it should be. We know that you can always do some extra hours, 10 or 12 hours, but what the law allows, and giving us time to rest," says Juan Valiente.
Also, according to Valiente, the company has also committed to paying the proportional part of the extra pay to the workers on their days off. Valiente claimed that the company owed "more than 190,000 euros" to the employees for this reason. "It is already being solved," he says.
Valiente also wanted to apologize to the users "for the inconvenience that the announcement of the strike may have caused," which has finally been called off.
