Coalición Canaria has presented a motion in the Cabildo asking the first institution to commission a project for the restoration, replacement, beautification and lighting of the so-called "cruise passengers' promenade", for its execution in the low cruise season.

To this end, in the initiative that will be debated this Friday in the Plenary, the nationalists propose that the formalization of an agreement with the "partial ownership" of the Salinas de Naos be promoted, in order to provide permanent coverage "to actions of improvement, maintenance and cleaning".

Likewise, from CC they consider it necessary to promote with "immediacy", together with the Arrecife City Council, "a shock and cleaning action for reasons of health and image of one of the main assets of island tourism and the main one for the capital, such as the aforementioned promenade and the Salinas de Naos through which it passes, which presents a deplorable state of dirt and abandonment".

"A real garbage dump, with accumulation of belongings and garbage of all kinds in front of the city, in its main tourist gateway, in view of the thousands and thousands of cruise passengers who have already visited it, and especially will visit it in the coming months," CC points out in its motion.

"For some years now, cruise tourism has been growing on the island of Lanzarote and we have the obligation to ensure that our spaces are in adequate conditions, not to neglect them; but not only to receive tourists, but for any citizen who wants to enjoy them. It is clear that the space to which our motion refers needs urgent action, you only have to go there to realize it. So we hope to have the support of the plenary," explains the councilor, Migdalia Machín.

Likewise, Machín recalls that in May 2021, the Cabildo de Lanzarote approved a motion by Coalición Canaria "to resume the project for the partial restoration of the Salinas de Naos, the barracks and several of its water mills". A project among those proposed by the Biosphere Reserve, which is framed in the global project Arrecife Capital of the Biosphere Reserve, and which the nationalists emphasize that "the previous government group left on the table with the work of heritage recovery completed, as well as with favorable sectoral reports and only pending the acquisition of the asset".

They also add that the Arrecife City Council did the same, but "neither of the two institutions has taken a single step to ensure that both plenary agreements are fulfilled and executed".

"Cruise tourism and the image that the island projects to the world through the gateway to the capital, we understand that it is an issue of insular interest that requires the urgent attention of the first Corporation and this is the reason that explains and motivates this initiative," Machín emphasizes.
