The Nationalist Group (CC-PNC) urges the Lanzarote Council to implement mandatory measures to achieve quantifiable energy savings in the Corporation's buildings, as well as "a reasonable and efficient use of the vehicles available, without giving up any benefit."
In a motion to be debated in the plenary session to be held this Monday, May 23, the nationalists also include the need to launch an informative campaign with suggestions for the responsible use of energy for the entire population of Lanzarote and La Graciosa.
"Every year, about 452,155 tons of hydrocarbons are consumed in our two islands, and if we do nothing to remedy it, the burning of fossil fuels caused by daily activity will continue to increase," says CC-PNC spokesperson Samuel Martín, who adds that we must not forget the consequences that the war in Ukraine is generating in the global energy balance.
"Some cities and regions of the European Union have already begun to take measures aimed at saving energy, such as the generalization of teleworking, the use of a responsible temperature in the air conditioning systems of buildings or the promotion of sustainable micromobility. Many of these future proposals could be applied in La Graciosa and Lanzarote," Martín stresses.
This motion is in addition to the one already announced last Friday, in which, as explained, CC-PNC asks the Council to demand that the Government fulfill the commitment made two years ago with the island's roads and reminds it that the remodeling of the connection between the LZ-3 (Arrecife ring road) and the LZ-2 (road that connects Arrecife with Playa Honda), "is an urgent need to improve the mobility and safety of users of that road at the entrance to the island's capital."
In another order of things, in the same plenary session, the CC-PNC councilors will ask if the 10th edition of the Saborea Lanzarote Enogastronomic Festival will be held in 2022, taking into account, they point out from the party, "that there is hardly any time left to prepare the security plan, infrastructure and everything that entails an event of these characteristics."
"At this point in the year we still do not know if this government plans to continue collaborating and participating in the celebration of this recognized and prestigious fair and if it is aware that it is one of the best showcases we have to show the quality of our local product, and that it supports our agricultural and livestock sector through the hotel and restaurant industry," Martín stresses.
The nationalists will also ask about the measures that the Cabildo plans to take to unblock the waiting list of files for the assessment and evaluation of the individual, family, economic and sociocultural conditions of people who are in a certain situation before a social and judicial process, and that have been accumulating since January in the Area of Social Welfare, due to the absence, "for reasons that are unknown, of the forensic doctor dependent on said area."
Finally, the third of the questions that CC-PNC is taking to the plenary session this Monday is related to the poor condition of many of the island's agricultural and neighborhood roads, which "demand urgent action and it is not known when or how the Cabildo plans to proceed with their repair."
