CC denounces that “El Almacén” celebrates its 48th anniversary when it has been closed for two years

The Cultural Innovation Center “El Almacén” celebrates its 48th anniversary this Wednesday, February 23, and Coalición Canaria has denounced that it does so with its doors closed. “This anniversary should be special and a reason for celebration, if it were not because this benchmark of contemporary culture in Lanzarote has been closed for the last two years, coinciding with the arrival of María Dolores Corujo to the presidency of the Cabildo”, they denounce from the party.

The nationalists also question that last January, the CEO of the CACT, Benjamín Perdomo himself, announced “in various media” that “this iconic cultural institution will reopen in carnivals, which remains to be seen, converted into a ‘croquetería’”.

“Forcing the closure of a cultural emblem like 'El Almacén' to reopen it two years later as a ‘croquetería’ is irrefutable proof that culture has ceased to be a priority for the Cabildo”, says the CC councilor, Óscar Pérez Cabrera.

Likewise, the councilor affirms that this is “just one more example” of the type of policy that the Corporation exercises in the sector.

“A president whose main cultural milestones, beyond managing to keep ‘El Almacén’ open for just nine months after its irruption, are, among others, the attempted kidnapping of a literary work, the removal of works of art by direct political order, the closure of museums or the cost overrun of more than 50,000 euros of a festival in which she herself had a stellar appearance on stage”, adds the councilor.

In a previous statement on this same space, the CC itself recognized that El Almacén also remained closed for seven years under the mandate of Pedro San Ginés, and reopened shortly before he had to leave the Presidency of the Cabildo.
