Following the recent public denunciation by the new government of the Cabildo, claiming that the Casa de los Volcanes has been "razed", CC has come out in defense of the works and has criticized the "imposture and ignorance about the work of César Manrique" of the president of the corporation, María Dolores Corujo, and the CEO of the Centers for Art, Culture and Tourism, Juan Félix Eugenio.
"César Manrique did not design this space, but a restaurant, which is what is being built at the moment as arranged by the Lanzarote genius", they point out from CC, after the new government group assured that "they have completely dismantled the Casa de los Volcanes and partially the most emblematic cafeteria of Jameos, substantially modifying or eliminating the designs of César Manrique to create restaurant spaces that house a greater number of people, neglecting the artistic and museum purpose of its creator".
Thus, from CC they point out that it is "fair and paradoxically the opposite of what Corujo has shamefully denounced." "It seems obvious that in order to relocate this project to another place, the one in the previous location must be dismantled, as planned and as they will probably do despite the posturing", adds the spokesperson for the nationalist formation in the Cabildo, Pedro San Ginés,
"Approval" from the Heritage Commission
In a statement, CC points out that "the aforementioned volcanological research center is a project by the artist Jesús Soto" and that "it was executed in 1987 by order of the government presided over by the socialist Enrique Pérez Parrilla at the head of the first island corporation, who, in any case, using the same language as the island president, carried out the betrayal of Manrique's memory and work."
The CC spokesperson in the Cabildo, Pedro San Ginés, also states that "the work that is currently being carried out in the Jameos del Agua has the approval of the Insular Commission for Historical Heritage, in which the César Manrique Foundation is also represented, which not only voted in favor of the project, but it was carried out at its proposal and by architects also suggested by the FCM".
Likewise, he points out that "the president of the Cabildo also lies when stating that to date the workers of the CACT had not been consulted about anything" because he affirms that the project currently in force had "the approval" of workers from the Tourist Centers, specifically from "two of César Manrique's closest collaborators in the development of the latter's spatial work, both members of the monitoring commission of his work created for this purpose".
"Who did transform illegally; or at least investigated, was Carlos Espino in his kitchens in which, by the way, according to the judicial expert, he paid a price well above the market value and that is why the current head of the presidency's cabinet is being investigated by the commission for several crimes", adds San Ginés.
