CC brands Román Rodríguez as a "defector and vile traitor of the Canary Islands" for breaking up the Canarian group in Congress

"Román Rodríguez has silenced the voice of the Canary Islands in Madrid, he has put a vile gag of betrayal on the Islands." This is how blunt Paulino Rivero, president of the Canarian Coalition (CC), was with Román Rodríguez, president of Nueva Canaria (NC), after the meeting he held with the Standing Committee of CC in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

Rivero did not like at all that Román Rodríguez moved to the Mixed Group in Congress, to completely disassociate himself from CC. This causes the parliamentarians José Luis Mardones and the person who replaces Paulino Rivero in Congress, possibly Ana Oramas, to be forced to also move to the Mixed Group and thus lose the advantages of constituting a parliamentary group in the central government.

With Rodríguez's action, Rivero is afraid that the twelve years of Canarian nationalist representation in Congress will end and responds to the words of the president of NC, who referred to the "lack of teamwork that is breathed in Madrid" with the argument that he does not work with "childish nonsense" but "with men".

Rivero's nationalist party understands that Rodríguez demonstrates "his particular interest and lust for power, which lead him to servility with the Canarian Socialist Party (PSC), even if it means going against the Canary Islands".

REPRISALS

Rivero demanded that Rodríguez return the seat: "He was elected deputy as head of the list for CC and therefore must return the seat he occupies so that the next one on our party's list can sit." "Let him resign out of ethics and with dignity, or we will be forced to resort to the Association of the Pact against Defection, so that he moves to the group of deputies who have no right to anything," he continued.

Faced with these tense moods within the ranks of CC, Rivero responded with hope about the near future of the deputies of Congress: "Life goes on, we will renew the balance in the Senate in the next general elections. It is possible that we will get a deputy in the general elections, for the province of Las Palmas and for that of Santa Cruz de Tenerife up to three."
