The Organization Secretary of Coalición Canaria, José Miguel Barragán, has considered that the most appropriate framework for parliamentary debate and the search for solutions to irregular immigration is the Cortes Generales, since "the State Government is the one that has almost all the powers in the matter".

However, CC supports the holding of an extraordinary session in the Parliament of the Canary Islands to analyze the consequences of the arrival of cayucos and pateras to the Islands, since "it will contribute to deepening the debate on an issue that requires the support and unity of all the Canarian political forces", Barragán explained.

The secretary reminded socialists and populars that "it was the president of the Government of the Canary Islands himself, Adán Martín, "who presented a writing last Monday in the registry of the autonomous chamber requesting to intervene in said session".

In any case, the Canarian nationalists insist that the most appropriate scenario to reflect on this matter is the Cortes Generales since the State Government has the powers related to border control, the bodies and security forces of the State, foreign relations and the management of internment centers. In addition, it maintains that it is in Madrid where an agreement must be sought with the rest of the Autonomous Communities for the transfer of immigrants and the solidarity distribution of minors within the Superior Council of Immigration Policy.

With this objective, the senators of CC have requested the appearance of three ministers in the Upper House and this week they will do the same in the Congress of Deputies. In this sense, the Organization Secretary of CC regrets that the socialists have refused within the Permanent Deputation of Congress to hold an extraordinary session in August on this matter, despite the repeated requests of the Canarian nationalists and the PP.

"The Parliament of the Canary Islands", Barragán indicated, "has approved more than a hundred resolutions during the Government of Aznar and Zapatero, demanding that the State get involved in an issue that, unfortunately, has been acquiring greater drama over the years. To these resolutions we must add the countless initiatives presented in the same sense both in the Congress of Deputies and in the Senate".
