The Local Committee of Coalición Canaria in Yaiza requests the City Council "to supervise the installation of the new urban signage of the municipality, whose erroneous placement, in many cases, is generating situations of confusion among the population."
“We think it's perfect that an important investment has finally been made and the signs that were deteriorated have been changed, but it doesn't make sense that, as our neighbors have told us and we have had the opportunity to verify, many of them have been placed incorrectly”, says the nationalist candidate for Mayor of the southern town, Emilio Machín.
Machín applauds the "investment of 305,000 euros, co-financed by the Island Council's Cooperation Plan", but criticizes "its profitability if it does not fulfill its objective, which is precisely to help residents and tourists to orient themselves."
In the same vein, the local secretary of CC, Mateo Ramón de la Cruz, cites as an example that the information sign for the Local Police points to the place where the funeral home is located, assuring that it is not the only one that is misplaced.
Thus, he laments that “while the people of the town are worried about the chaos that is being generated by the signs located erroneously and without consensus with the affected neighbors, the Yaiza government is dedicated to presuming a new absurdity.”
And it is that, the nationalists consider that "little can be expected from a government that before verifying that everything is installed properly so that it fulfills its objective and giving the neighbors the attention they deserve, dedicates itself to sending press releases to the media indicating that the way in which drivers perceive and interpret the information from urban signage sets is fundamental to achieving safe driving without hesitation.”
“If drivers are going to have to be guided by those signs for safe driving without hesitation, we're in trouble”, concludes Mateo Ramón.
