The nationalist councilor of the Tías City Council accuses the Government group of "lack of receptivity and political responsibility", for rejecting a motion presented by Juan Cruz Sepúlveda to urge the Corporation to adopt measures aimed at streamlining the land provided for in the General Urban Planning Plan to execute public housing.

Cruz Sepúlveda also requested that they "clearly" define housing policies for the next five years. However, the motion did not get the support of the Government group, thus demonstrating, according to the councilor, "that they are not in the mood to work on housing policies for young people." In addition, he denounced that "in the municipality of Tías there has been a paralysis and a total blockade in the process of accessing housing, especially for young people, so we believe that it is time for the Council to lead a serious program in this matter".

The motion presented by the Coalición Canaria group in the City Council refers to the report prepared by the European Commission in which the Spanish Government is requested to facilitate access to housing, especially for young people and immigrants. The European body warns that the growth of the economy in recent years has not been accompanied by a decrease in the percentages of the population at risk of poverty, and points out that already in 2004 it reached 20% compared to 16% in the European Union.

The councilor of Tías highlights that the municipality "has the most scarce and most expensive land in the Canary Islands" and public constructions are insufficient because private promotions are not accessible for a typical worker, and many young people are forced to leave the municipality in search of places with less investment such as Argana, Playa Honda and Costa Teguise.
