They did not meet any of the requirements to fish. They were doing it from a recreational boat, where this practice is not allowed in any of its variants. They also used prohibited gear, which consisted of a seine net with forty hooks, and to complete the task, they managed to catch 80 kilos of immature sardines, that is, they were not of the minimum size to be collected.
The Maritime Service of the Civil Guard detected these illegal fishermen last weekend when they were finishing the rescue of a small boat in the vicinity of Arrecife. Also in charge of the control and surveillance of recreational and fishing boats, they approached the boat and verified all the irregularities they were committing.
After formalizing the complaint, the Civil Guard has sent the incident to the Deputy Ministry of Fisheries, which is responsible for determining and imposing the sanction. The boat was sealed until the incident is resolved, and the fish was seized by the security force.
