The deputy for Lanzarote and La Graciosa, Marcos Bergaz, asked the Minister of Territorial Policy, Territorial Cohesion and Water of the Government of the Canary Islands, Manuel Miranda (CC), this Wednesday about the current status of the La Graciosa sanitation project and the real deadlines foreseen for the start of the works.
During his speech in the parliamentary commission held in the Sala Cabildos, Bergaz recalled that this project accumulates several failed attempts since 2016, when emergency works were initiated and subsequently halted. A second attempt, in 2020, which was not carried out, and currently, work is being done on a third initiative through a management commission to the public company Tragsatec.
The deputy pointed out that the minister himself placed the completion of the project's drafting between October 2025 and January 2026. However, a project that includes the sanitation network of Caleta de Sebo, domestic connections, pumping stations, and the wastewater treatment and reuse system has not yet been completed.
During his speech, the deputy and municipal spokesperson in Teguise lamented the accumulated delays and inquired about "the current status of the project's drafting and the measures planned to speed up the deadlines for the start of the works."
In this regard, he proposed possible ways to accelerate the execution, such as the direct execution of the works by Tragsatec, the urgent processing of the tender, or the incorporation of deadline reduction as an award criterion: "It would be a shame if the legislature ends without the works having started," he stated, appealing to the responsibility of the regional Executive.
For his part, Minister Manuel Miranda announced that "the forecast for the delivery of the project and the environmental document will be next June 17: that is the existing commitment." He also added that, from that moment on, the Government will try to declare the urgency of the file to shorten administrative deadlines and speed up the issuance of reports regarding a work that "will not be tendered, and surely not executed, before the year 2027."
To conclude, Bergaz stressed that "hopefully this time he is right, because so far his government has not been particularly accurate with its announcements, forecasts, and calendar for this action."
