The President of the Parliament of the Canary Islands, Astrid Pérez, will present tomorrow, Thursday, His Majesty King Felipe VI with the Gold Medal of the Canary Chamber. The act of awarding the highest distinction of Parliament will begin at 10:00 a.m. and can be followed live through the website and institutional social networks.

“The independence and neutrality of the Crown has contributed to the stability of our democracy and, ten years after the start of the reign of Don Felipe VI, we are convinced that the monarchy continues and will continue to provide a fundamental service to our country,” says the president.

Astrid Pérez, who on June 20 obtained the unanimous support of the Bureau for her proposal to award this recognition, points out that “the main authorities of the Canary Islands will receive His Majesty tomorrow in Parliament in an act that will be a great tribute from this land to its King. The deputies, the members of the Chamber's Bureau and the spokespersons of the parliamentary groups will be there, but also the president and vice president of the Canary Islands, the members of the regional government, the former presidents of the Archipelago and the former presidents of our Parliament.

In addition, we will have the presidents of the island councils, representatives of the central government and many other civil and military authorities. It will be a historic act that will serve to thank His Majesty for the great work he carries out for Spain and for the Canary Islands.”

“In these ten years, His Majesty King Don Felipe VI has participated in more than fifty official events on the islands, which highlights his special connection with this land. This distinction aims to reaffirm the recognition of the permanent commitment that links the Crown to the Canary Islands. It will be an honor and a pride to present our King with the highest distinction of the Parliament of the Canary Islands,” highlights Astrid Pérez.

According to the regulations governing the granting of the Medal of the Parliament of the Canary Islands, approved on October 17, 2006, this distinction is created “to recognize the personalities or institutions and groups that, having stood out in the service to this Parliament or to the Autonomous Community in general, are worthy, in the opinion of Parliament, of honorary consideration. Likewise, it may be granted to institutions, authorities and personalities who, due to the special relationship or link with the Parliament of the Canary Islands or for reasons of reciprocity or courtesy, deserve it.”
