In this Monday's plenary session, the Arrecife City Council has approved the ratification of the transfer of land for the construction of the Congress Palace in the capital of Lanzarote. The municipal corporation, unanimously by all political forces, has approved the transfer that will allow the Cabildo of Lanzarote and La Graciosa to move forward with this project, whose request for the transfer of land was received in July 2019, date on which the City Council, during the previous term, carried out "the work for the segregation of the property, its registration in the Property Registry, and public transfer agreement", signed in December 2022 by the then Councilor for Urban Planning, in the previous term.

On July 25, 2019, in the previous term, "the first official request requesting the transfer of land for the construction of the Arrecife Auditorium" was submitted. That request highlighted that "The Cabildo of Lanzarote and the Government of the Canary Islands have planned in their budgets the financing for the construction of a Congress Palace that houses the Center for Culture and Events of Lanzarote."

The Consistory then initiated the "administrative procedures" to achieve this transfer. File 12962/2019 is opened, and in it, the report of the Municipal Technician on the Parceling Report is included, which, dated October 17, 2022, was requested for the segregation of a plot located on Avenida Fred Olsen, located between the Cabildo of Lanzarote and the Theme Park, of the Municipal District of Arrecife, a plot owned by the City Council, for the final transfer to the Island Council.

In the plenary session, of an extraordinary nature this Monday, it has been "agreed to ratify" the opinion of the Urban Planning Information Commission held on September 5, 2023, and to "materialize" the transfer of the land "Resulting from the Segregation of the parent property 4999 granted by resolution dated December 2, 2022, by the councilor delegate of urban planning".

During the plenary session, which had the "favorable vote of all political forces" present in the Municipal Corporation, Yonathan de León detailed that "this transfer is the result of a management carried out in the previous term, and completed today", and allows "to carry out this endowment so important for Arrecife and Lanzarote". "As the third capital of the Canary Islands, the city deserves to have a building of this magnitude, and we are closer to it becoming a reality."

For his part, the Councilor for Urban Planning, Maciot Cabrera, stated that the transfer to the Cabildo of a plot owned by the capital Consistory of 15,260 square meters for the construction of the Congress Palace of Lanzarote is a "great step for the future of the entire island". "After so long hearing about the Congress Palace, we finally take the first step so that this infrastructure so necessary for Arrecife and for the entire island ceases to be a promise and becomes a reality. We are going to have an island auditorium up to the level that the third most important city in the Canary Islands deserves."

The transfer of the land, as established in the agreement, is subject "to compliance" with the following purposes: "Construction on it of the Congress Palace or Center for Culture and Leisure of Lanzarote. The reason for the reversion of the asset to the Arrecife City Council will be the passage of the term of five years without the Cabildo having put the center into operation and effective availability to citizens."
