The Department of Animal Welfare of the Arrecife City Council has decided to paralyze the adoption of animals at the Animal Protection Center during the Christmas holidays. This measure is taken in collaboration with the Animal Protection Unit of the Local Police and responds to the growing concern for the welfare of animals at this time of year.

The main objective of this initiative is to prevent animals from becoming ephemeral gifts or Christmas whims, thus ensuring that each adoption is carried out with the responsibility and commitment it deserves.

Councilman Jacobo Lemes emphasizes that "an animal is not an object, but a living being that requires love, attention and long-term care." "This decision is essential to protect our animals. We want each adoption to take place in an appropriate context, where families are really prepared to assume the responsibility of having a pet. The holidays are special moments, but they should not be an excuse to make impulsive decisions."

Although adoptions are paralyzed for a few weeks, joining the initiative of other entities such as the Animal and Plant Protector "Sara", the mayor invites citizens to visit the facilities of the Animal Protection Center of the capital and meet its residents.

"It is crucial that we promote a culture of responsible adoption. We want our pets to find homes where they are valued and loved," adds Lemes.
