The Department of Parks and Gardens of the Arrecife City Council has launched an awareness campaign on the abandonment of masks in public places, especially in the green areas of the municipality. "This irresponsible behavior has been repeated on numerous occasions without taking into account the negative effects it may have on the environment," they warn from the Consistory, which recalls that "to deposit this type of materials there are bins and containers distributed throughout the capital."

Something "similar" they regret happens with gloves, "which once used, are not deposited in the appropriate areas for it either." "Sometimes, this type of materials end up in the garden areas of the municipality or in the sea, where it can cause serious damage to marine fauna," they emphasize.

The Councilor for Parks and Gardens of Arrecife, Tomás Fajardo, has stressed that “this type of behavior is not only a problem for the environment but also a risk to people's health.”

The councilor highlighted the importance of maintaining civic behavior among the residents of Arrecife. “I appeal to the responsibility of each citizen to keep our green areas free of any type of pollution. There are ideal places to deposit this type of materials, since it is useless to use masks if we do not then deposit them in the bins or containers.”

With this awareness campaign, the Department of Parks and Gardens states that it is trying to prevent "all these irresponsible and disastrous behaviors for the environment from happening in the municipality."
