The Arrecife City Council has already established the Municipal Council for Cultural Heritage. The Official Gazette of Las Palmas includes this Wednesday the decree signed by the mayor Ástrid Pérez, dated June 2, which establishes the list of members of this Council, in accordance with the provisions of the Canary Islands law of 2019.

The Consistory points out that the capital's first mayor assumed her commitment, when she acceded to the Mayor's Office of Arrecife two years ago, to activate and promote the tools to streamline urban planning in the capital municipality. In addition, it is indicated that the Government group has among its objectives the processing and approval of the Municipal Catalog of Buildings with heritage values.

The Municipal Heritage Council of Arrecife - which has already been convened by the mayor for the first meeting by telematic means for next June 15 - has been constituted as a consultative body, in which the administrations competent in matters of Heritage are represented by direct designation, as well as the consultative institutions provided for in the applicable legislation. Its objective is to serve as an effective instrument for the development of urban actions in the Arrecife term that are linked to heritage values, with the ultimate aim of protecting, conserving, restoring and transmitting in the best possible conditions to future generations the heritage existing in the capital of Lanzarote.

The Arrecife City Council launched last September the approval of the Regulations of the Municipal Council of Cultural Heritage of Arrecife. With that agreement, it modified the Regulations of the Council that was published in the Official Gazette of the Province of Las Palmas on June 12, 2017, which, as of last year, had not been updated to the Law of Cultural Heritage of the Canary Islands, in force since April of last year 2019. Thus, the Consistory highlights that it has been under the mandate of the Government group led by Astrid Pérez when this regulation has been activated and the Municipal Council created.

The text of the updated regulations, and already in force, ensures the conservation, protection and enhancement of historical heritage, which is now called Cultural Heritage because it is a more current meaning.

A profile "eminently technical"

Among the members of this Municipal Council are a professor representing the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, a representative of the International Council for the Conservation of Heritage (CICOP), an architect representing the College of Architects of Lanzarote, a technician representing the Cabildo de Lanzarote, as well as representatives of the Bar Association of Lanzarote, among others. The president of the Commission is the mayor of Arrecife and the secretary is a technical lawyer of the Arrecife City Council.

As reflected today in the BOP, the Municipal Council of Cultural Heritage of Arrecife has "an eminently technical profile and will fulfill the purpose of providing advice to the local Administration", it is noted from the Consistory.

Likewise, in this Municipal Council there will be non-voting members, who will be a representative of the association of owners with cultural values, still to be constituted according to the City Council; and a representative of the team of drafters of the municipal urban planning plans in process, with an impact on cultural heritage. In the designation of representatives "the principle of balanced presence between women and men will be respected in any case."

In addition, when the Council deems it appropriate, it may invite to its meetings accredited experts or specialists (archaeologists, historians, architects, biologists, scientists in general), technicians or experts in the subjects within the scope of competence of this Council, in order to obtain advice and / or issue the opinions that proceed, as noted in the Official Gazette of the Province.
