The Department of Public Works of the Arrecife City Council has completed in these weeks of October the resurfacing works of Peñas del Chache, Usaje, Yuco, Aniagua streets and a section of Méjico street.

These streets connect the neighborhoods of La Destila and La Vega, in the capital of Lanzarote. During this week, the works have been completed in the section of Méjico street, with the crossings to Triana, La Inés and Manolo Millares streets, roads where the City Council has carried out other important improvements in this first year of term.

During this past summer, the companies awarded these resurfacing plans have been working on improving the streets of the Las Salinas neighborhood, in the surroundings of the Antonio Zerolo School, and Las Salinas Institute, where road safety has been reinforced by installing speed reducers with the placement of asphalt speed bumps next to the new paving of those streets.

The works are part of the Municipal Resurfacing Plan launched by the mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León, which includes the renovation of the paving in about 150 streets in different neighborhoods of the capital of Lanzarote.

Yonathan de León, directly responsible for the Public Works Area, has reported that during this autumn more streets will continue to be resurfaced in different areas of Arrecife.

During these months, the Department of Public Works has already intervened in the improvements of the roads in the neighborhoods of San Francisco Javier, Las Salinas, Argana Alta, La Destilla and El Lomo, and it is planned that the plan will also include a good change to new streets in the neighborhoods of Argana Baja, El Lomo, Valterra and Maneje, among other areas of the city.

Many of the streets where the City Council is resurfacing "have been without improvements to the pavement of the road network for more than 20 years", according to the city council itself. The mayor has requested the companies awarded these plans to first mill the roads to leave the new pavement elevations at levels that do not create barriers next to the sidewalks.

Reinforcement of the pavement and renovation of road signs

Parallel to these resurfacing works, the Department of Mobility and Transport of Arrecife, led by Councilor Mario González Altube, is reinforcing and marking the new road signs of these streets, for greater safety of pedestrians and drivers.

During this term, the Municipal Government has assured that "it is prioritizing public investments in the improvement of all the neighborhoods of Arrecife, with different works plans, some in execution, and others in the process of being tendered".
