All PSOE allegations to the garbage increase in Teguise rejected

Marcos Bergaz: “They voted against all our proposals to make the new ordinance fairer, but at least we managed to get them to inform citizens of the increase in the garbage bill.”

The PSOE informs through a press release this Sunday of the final approval of the new garbage ordinance in Teguise, which will mean a “general increase” in the bill paid by citizens and businesses in the municipality.

With the sole votes of the government formed by the Canarian Coalition (CC), the Popular Party (PP) and the former Vox councilor, in the plenary session this Thursday, they rejected all the allegations presented to an ordinance that the socialists describe as “unfair and very improvable”.

During his speech in plenary, the socialist spokesperson Marcos Bergaz highlighted from the outset “the serious and rigorous work of his group on this issue, as we made known, in the face of the government's silence, the increase they were preparing; we presented allegations to make the ordinance fairer and more progressive, even though we knew that the government would not let itself be helped; and finally, we have managed to ensure that, at least, each resident and businessman is informed of the increase that their garbage bill will experience from 2025”.

“One more example of the serious and useful opposition that we exercise as the majority party in the town hall, with criticisms of the government's opacity, which seems to have 'reservations' about informing citizens of the increase, trying to sell the ordinance as a mere update, when there are small businesses that will see their bill increased by more than 100%”, Bergaz points out.

"It must be remembered that there are important increases such as the one that affects small bars and restaurants that go from having to pay 284 euros per year to 600, in the case of restaurant businesses of less than fifty square meters; or from 227.68 euros to 450 euros for bars of equal dimensions, regardless of the location in which they are located in the municipality", the socialists clarify.

"In the same way, let the increase in the fee paid by households be consumed, which goes from 56 to 75 euros per year, regardless of the number of people who live in the home; without incorporating progressive criteria into the ordinance, so that a house with a single member does not pay the same as another where 8 people live, a house of 60 square meters than another of 500", laments the socialist councilor.

Finally, the socialist group hopes that, now the government will at least comply with the plenary agreement approved in this plenary session at the request of the PSOE - despite the vote against the municipal government - to “inform taxpayers how much they will pay in the next fiscal year and the few bonuses that have been incorporated by the government headed by CC for fifteen years”.
